Storm-Chaser Scams: How to Spot Them Before They Cost You

Within days of a big hail storm, out-of-town crews flood damaged neighborhoods. Some are legitimate. Many are not. Here's how to tell the difference before your insurance check disappears.

The red flags

Offering to "waive" or "cover" your deductible — that's illegal in Texas, full stop. Pressure to sign today "before the price goes up." A contract that assigns your insurance benefits to them. No local address, no local references, out-of-state plates. Demanding large payment up front.

How to verify a roofer

Ask for a physical local office you can visit, proof of insurance, and references from your own area that are more than a year old — storm chasers can't produce those. Trophy is headquartered in College Station and we'll still be here when your warranty needs us. That's the whole point.
